BCONE's mission is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas/best practices on the benefits of brownfield remediation, resilience and sustainable redevelopment, and to work with public, private, and regulatory stakeholders in our region to facilitate economic activity and growth with a focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
BCONE’s geographic coverage extends from Maine to Maryland. BCONE members have extensive experience in the brownfield remediation and redevelopment process. Our members include all of the participants that you need for a successful project: state regulatory agencies, state economic development agencies, municipal officials, federal agencies, academics, brownfield practitioners in the fields of environmental remediation, land use consulting, real estate, law, finance, insurance and risk management, land development, and green jobs training programs that supply well-trained, accredited, and certified entry-level technicians for a variety of brownfield and green energy jobs.
The diversification of our BCONE members allows us to provide educational resources to the public, the private sector, universities and colleges, and communities. Our regional composition allows us to share local success stories and to recognize the importance of real estate markets that cross state borders (such as NYC metro area, which includes parts of NJ, CT and PA). We hold local events and meetings in CT, NJ, NY and PA and are looking to expand into all of the states in our geography. Our main annual event, the Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop (NSCW), exemplifies our educational mission.
BCONE leadership serves as a resource and an advocate for municipalities and communities redeveloping their brownfield and opportunity zone properties. We participate in many different stakeholder groups across our region, including the National Brownfield Conference, state-specific regulatory and policy groups, and state-run conferences. BCONE provides research, white papers, articles, blogs, and gives presentations at all the brownfield and remediation conferences we attend. We provide scholarships for the next generation of brownfield experts. Additionally, BCONE provides input and shares with state decision makers what other states in our region are doing to improve programs and regulations to further promote resilience and sustainable brownfield redevelopment.
